Weetabix League

Meet at 1.15pm for Warm Up , Team Talk & Tactics. KIck Off 2pm.

AFC won the title last night so it will be interesting to see how they approach Sunday’s game. It wasn’t a great game in terms of football skills on display last night, just very tense but a match where the ball was being hoofed around for 70 mins. Nothing I saw last night makes me think they are any better than us. We play much nicer football.

Watching how they played and set up I think our 3-3-1-3 formation with the sweeper can cause them lots of challenges. If we stick to positions and a plan. AFC played a kind of 2-3-4-1 formation .

WHAT WE NEED TO WATCH
They flooded midfield with players who run to support the single striker from deep so get men forward . We need to make sure our sweeper, CDM and the two marking Centre Backs watch the runs from the midfield . It was the main thing Corby struggled with. Their wing backs get forward and don’t defend much so we need to cover these runs also. We need to make sure our defence and midfield stay back to cover or we will be overrun. so midfield and defence is exactly that . Don’t wander out of position. Cut out danger , win the ball then aim to play forward and wide .quickly .Go support the attack from deep.

WHERE WE CAN DO WELL
AFC only played with two Centre backs close together in the circle who did also advance forward. Occasionally one wing back helped cover but not often . The 2 CBS were often isolated with no team mate within 20 meters.

if we play three up front like we do with the attacking CAM and if our wingers stay wide AFC will need to solve some problems . Especially if we trick them by late movement into these areas. If we play like we did v Aztec into these wide areas and get forward quickly we can score Goals. Corby’s main success and goals came like this with breaks down the wings, however they weren’t brave enough to take some risks in a game they had to win so only had 2 up front . We won’t have the problem and I think we can out Number them easily . We can perhaps practice some 4v 2 & 4V 3 attacks in training.

Everyone is available so we have subs.

They are league winners so let’s show them some respect and maybe do a Guard of honour to clap them on at the start . They deserve that. Then we will get down to business and take them on . We can do well I know most importantly let’s enjoy our final league game . The pitch is looking superb.
