Respect reminder for the 21/22 season

26 Aug 2021 by Luke Doughty

Good afternoon everyone.

Sorry for the long message but please take the time to read the following. Me and James attended the exciting annual Weetabix League meeting last night, where every year we are told the same usual things.

However, a growing issue was raised regarding the abuse referees are facing including verbal threats and even physical abuse including an incident of a coach spitting on a referee. There is a crackdown with ref reporting being stepped up next season.

Although I am proud to say we have never had an incident involving the Hawks, I would like to remind everyone including coaches, all spectators at the ground and players of all ages that NO ABUSE towards referees will be tolerated and anyone involved will be told to leave the club immediately and we may suspend memberships or exclude people. If the club is found guilty of an offence of failing to control spectators this will comes with a hefty fine.

The referees are developing just as much as the players are and are just as important in the Weetabix League. They deserve the same level of respect as anyone else on or around the pitch.

The league is bringing back the respect league campaign where teams will be scored by the opposite and the referee on the level of respect a team has demonstrated.

This is something we are very proud to have won before and feel we can win again. We have worked hard in the past to gain a strong positive reputation we give our opposition and the officials, with the club bigger than ever before we want to ensure we are still keeping this as one of our clubs values.

finally good luck for the up coming season!!
